Oakspoke is an experiment in social value.
The Oakspoke Hypothesis:
"Given the right social conditions, Participant A will accept acoorn from Participant B in exchange for a beer."
Why We're Doing This
Oakspoke exists to explore a few big questions:
- Can a market form around something that starts with almost no value?
- Do people value things more once they hold them?
- What is the simplest, least expensive technology that can possibly support this?
- Can a secure, scalable, flexible currency run on pennies per day?
How It Works
Claim a spot on the map
Pick a location. That's your home on the Acoorn network.
Send and receive acoorns
Exchange acoorns—our unit of digital value—with people at other locations.
Run a forager
A forager is a small, independent robot that checks the ledger to ensure everything is accurate and consistent. Run one, and you earn acoorns for helping keep the system honest.
What Acoorn Is (and Isn't)
- Not a get-rich-quick crypto scheme
- Not backed by promises or hype
- Just a simple system designed to see what happens when people decide something has value
Claim. Send. Receive.
Simple working prototype (costs about $50 to build). This forager is now foraging and earning acoorn rewards at location X:75.332aef674c6_Y:159.44684f14f94 (lat/long: 40°57'06"N 73°41'47"W)
Prototype 1.0.1. This forager is now doing real work auditing the Oakspoke network. It also maintins a local local copy of the Oakspoke blockchain for security and redundancy.
